Film Research
Essay
The film is set in California, and stars Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor. Melanie Daniels decides to take some love birds to Mitch Brenner in Bodega Bay. She drives up there and delivers the love birds discreetly on boat. On her way back she gets hit on her head by a seagull. Mitch catches up with her and lends her a hand; this is when the mysterious bird attacks begin to unfold. Although there is never an explanation for the attacks, Alfred Hitchcock has said the film was inspired by dead birds falling from the sky in Monterey Bay, in 1961. The tone of the film is dark and gloomy (most of the scenes are on cloudy days). The bird attacks themselves although not completely realistic in today's terms, they are horrific nonetheless.
