Essay

Drive is a movie about a man who works as a stunt driver as well as a getaway driver. He is nameless and enigmatic. This helps set the tone of the movie making it feel dark and mysterious. The Driver, who is mostly a loner, develops feelings of affection towards his neighbor and her son, Irene and Benicio. Irene’s husband, who was recently released from jail, asks the Driver to join in him in a heist involving a large sum of money. The unfavorable results of the heist drive the plot of the rest of the film.

The film full of thrilling car chase scenes and intensely gory and violent scenes. Full of vivid colors from the Los Angeles backdrop, the film is very stylish and contains sunny dreamlike scenes. The darker scenes are beautifully lit and result in high contrast saturated shots. The films shots are balanced yet unpredictable, which keeps the viewer’s eyes moving. The plot, shots, and characters make this film lively. The ethereal feel of the movie is reinforced by its electronic-pop soundtrack and saturated color pallet.
