Upper class trying to escape Warsaw. Contrast of colors allows us to tell who is the “rich” from the people who are actually fighting for their country. Everything is very dull and dark compared to Stephan’s mother who is wearing a bright jacket.
Moment after Stephan watched his mother and brother get shot by the enemies. Very dark, muted and almost monochromatic. Expressing the emotions felt by him, the dark thoughts and rage/sadness.
Biedronka saving Stephan from the burning makeshift hospital building he was put in. Muted, gray as well as faded. Biedronka’s blue dress standing out among everything.
The film is based on the 1944 Warsaw Uprising in which the Polish Underground Home Army fought to liberate the city of Warsaw from the Nazi Germans. The film accurately represents historical aspects of the uprising such as military strategy, the views and beliefs of Poles, and the events that took place during the uprising. The movie also uses various styles of acting and setting to create different moods to captivate the viewer. The film earns a ranking of eight out of ten stars due to the historically accurate scenes and emotional portrayal of these scenes.
Warsaw ’44 is a film about story of love, friendship and the pursuit of adventure during the bloody and brutal reality of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.
