Task

Create motion loops using the word "flow". This is a homework assignment that you'll be working on until the concept phase of the film title sequence is completed. Since we don't work with After Effects in class in the beginning of the film title assignment this will be an opportunity to experiment and explore motion (and After Effects) further on a fundamental level combining simple form (type) and motion/sequence with the goal of communicating something with the means of motion.

Size, Length and Elements

Limitations/Elements:

Loop

An animation loop runs without interruption for a certain amount or unlimited time. In order to achieve this the first and the last frame of the animation has to be identical.

Consider, for example, type in 2D, 3D, in a grid or vertical/horiziontal repetition, masked text, animation using individual letters, one letter leads to the word or the word as one element.

Consider, for example, the following transformations (alone or combined): Rotation, movement, scale, blinking, opacity, letter spacing...

Number of Compositions

Create 5-10 loops and select 3 of them to upload to VIMEO. Also publish the 3 VIMEO clips onto one page of the class website.

For inspiration please look at previous examples the posted clips in the following pages in the articles section here: Kinetic Experiments I–IV and Kinetic Posters I–II.
