Opening scene. Beautiful peaceful landscape yet eerie psychedelic music. The camera follows the yellow car.

The interview. Hotel`s walls are an orange color. The manager told him about the previous accident about the murder that happened last winter. Jack got the job. 2nd scene: Danny and his mother having a meal. Danny talks to Tony (his imaginary friend). Tony doesn't want to move to a new place. Both scenes are full of red details.

Danny has an episode. He sees the hotel hall full of blood as well as twins.

The family arrived at the hotel. Danny sees twins again. Danny asking questions about room 237. Tony has told him something bad happened there.

Interesting sound effects accompany many scenes as family settling at the new place. Aggressive rumbling changes to smooth and over again. Playing, riding, typing

Jack slowly changes in mood. He yells at Wendy for bothering him.

Danny sees murdered twins in the hall. Funky yellow ornament on the walls and red colors.

Scenes change to blue cold tones.

Jack had a dream about killing his family. Danny came in with bruises on his neck. A woman in the bathtub tried to strangle him. The whole movie filled with high pitched sounds.

Jack goes in room 237 and sees the young lady the turned into a decayed body of the old lady. Wendy wants to leave the hotel. Jack is mad. He loves it there.

Jack sees illusions. He sees Mr. Grady. The person who took care of the hotel last winter and who murdered his family. The discovery takes place in the red bathroom. Jack starting to have thoughts about hurting his family to "correct" them.

Tony took over Danny. Jack broke the radio/car so no one can reach them.

The cook worries about the family and going over the hotel. Jack aware of his arrival. Wendy found his work and all of it just says "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Jack confronts her. He gets angry. Wendy scared. She hits him he loses his consciousness and she closes him in the storage room.

Jack escapes and going after his family with an ax. Danny escaped through the bathroom window. Jack hears the sound of the car outside and going to look for a cook. He kills him. There`s the sound of the wind outside.

Blue and yellow colors.Jack chasing Danny. Danny runs in the maze. Jack gets lost. Danny and Wendy drive away in the cook`s car.

In the end, the old photograph in the hotel is shown where we can see Jack. The photograph dated July 4th, 1921 way before Jack`s birth. It leaves the viewer with questions like, did Jack is the reincarnation of one of the guests of the hotel in 1921 or when Jack dies, his spirit gets absorbed in the hotel`s history forever?

Essay

The Shining is about Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the isolated historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Wintering over with Jack are his wife Wendy Torrance and young son Danny Torrance. Danny possesses "the shining", psychic abilities that enable him to see into the hotel's horrific past. The hotel's cook, Dick Hallorann, also has this and is able to telepathically communicate with Danny. The hotel had a previous winter caretaker who went crazy and killed his family and himself. After a winter storm leaves the Torrances snowbound, Jack's sanity deteriorates due to the influence of the supernatural forces that inhabit the hotel, placing his wife and son in danger.
