The opening crawl sequence is a parody of Star Wars. The text mentions that planet Spaceball has depleted their air supply and plan to steal the air from Planet Druidia. The color is dark except for the bright teal letters of the text.
Dark Helmet and his Lieutenant discuss their plan to kidnap Princess Vespa of Planet Druidia to Force King Roland to give them the combination to the air shield to steal their air supply. Colors are dark and dull, blacks and grays.
It is the day of Princess Vespa's wedding but she doesn't want to get married. She takes her companion Dot and runs away leaving her father and the groom behind. She is wearing white and the king and the prince are wearing colors that bring to mind royalty. (deep red and pink).
Pizza the Hut threatens the duo unless they pay him the 1 million space bucks they owe him. The henchman is wearing dark colors, the pop of color comes from Pizza the Hut. We see orange, white and red.
Lone Starr and his friend Barf are flying through the galaxy. King Roland offers them 1 million space bucks in order to bring back his daughter, which they accept. The colors are very drab and dull, only tans and browns.
Lone Starr and Barf rescue Princess Vespa and Dot from Dark Helmet by "jamming" their radar. They use real jam to "jam" the radar. The colors are dark except for the jam which is a reddish color.
After escaping, they crash land on the moon and are saved by Yogurt. He is a parody of Yoda. He teaches them the power of the Schwartz. The background is yellow, almost dream like, as if to show his power. The gold of his skin draws attention to himself.
The president orders his men to "comb" through the desert for the foursome, which they take literally. They find them and kidnap Princess Vespa. The men are wearing black clothing while the background is tan.
Lone Starr goes after Princess Vespa and rescues her. They are surrounded by guards but manage to escape when Dark Helmet accidentally captures their stunt doubles instead of them. The way the characters are dressed is reminiscent of Star Wars; black, gold, white, gray.
The group watch the spaceship transform into MegaMaid, complete with a vacuum to suck the air out of Planet Druidia. Lone Starr uses the power of the Schwartz to thwart Dark helmet and stop MegaMaid. He enters the spaceship in order to destroy it. The colors are black and gray, dark. the only color is a blue color that surrounds the planet, it is meant to represent air.
Dark Helmet and Lone Starr battle it out. Dark helmet is defeated and the spaceship is destroyed. The colors are dark, the only pop of color comes from their laser weapons.
We find out Lone Starr is a prince so he marries Princess Vespa. There are bright/light colors mixed with hints of gold to signify royalty.
Spaceballs is a film that parodies various space movies. It is a comedy adventure film set in outer space. The film opens up by telling viewers that Planet Spaceballs has wasted their air supply and that they plan to steal the air supply from Planet Druidia. The President and his henchman Dark Helmet plan to Kidnap Princess Vespa to blackmail King Roland into giving them access to their air supply. A man named Lone Starr and his friend Barf are hired to save Princess Vespa from the Spaceballs. Along the way they meet with Yogurt, who ends up helping them defeat the Spaceballs and save the Princess with the power of the Schwartz. The movie spoofs Star Wars characters such as Yogurt (Yoda), Barf (Chewbacca), Princess Vespa (Princess Leia), and Dark Helmet (Darth Vader). The film also breaks the fourth wall; Dark Helmet and his Lieutenant watch Spaceballs the movie in order to find where Lone Starr and Princess Vespa are. The film is filled with goofy situations as the villains bumble through trying to kidnap Princess Vespa and steal the air from Planet Druidia. In the end the President and Dark Helmet are defeated and Princess Vespa marries Lone Starr who ends up being a prince.
The film consists of mostly dark colors that are usually found in space. They include dark blue, black, white, grays, tans and gold. There are also a lot of scenes with starry skies. For the most part the colors are not that bright, or eye catching. The scene with Yogurt pops because of the use of the color gold. The moods that are created are silliness, fun, lighthearted and funny. The music along with the scenes help make the film into a lighthearted, funny adventure.
