Movie begins explaining the affair/love between Gustave (concierge) and elder lady Madame D.
Zero is introduced. He is the new lobby boy that works directly under Gustave.
Symmetry is connected throughout the entire film. Also very saturated with some pastels.
Madame D is announced dead. Gustave tells Zero they must immediately go to see her. Lighting/color in the film began to darken and decay.
Dmitri, son of Madame D, is disgusted with the fact that Gustave was gifted the Boy with Apple (famous painting) by Madame D. He fights and threatens Gustave & Zero.
Gustave and Zero run to Boy with Apple, stealing it off of Madame D's wall in her estate. They flee back to the Grand Budapest Hotel.
Gustave is taken to jail for being the alleged murderer of Madame D. He plans a way to sneak out of the jail.
Agatha, a young baker, is introduced as Zero's lover. She helps sneak took into the jail to sneak Gustave out.
Gustave digs a tunnel and makes his way out of jail to meet with Zero. They run back to the Grand Hotel with the help of other concierges from grand hotels.
Agatha sneaks to take Boy with Apple before Dmitri steals it from her. He finds her in the elevator, chases her and she escapes.
Only black and white scene of the movie. Gustave is taken away and killed. Zero and Agatha were left.
In present, Zero now owns the hotel. Lighting fixes in the movie after the darker scene of the story was told. Agatha is since passed.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a story told by the present owner, Zero. Zero tells the story of his past/beginning at the hotel with concierge, Gustave. Gustave is a put-together man who was in an affair with an elder woman, Madame D. Gustave was gifted the Boy with Apple, a famous painting that was the most precious thing Madame D had. The son Dmitri seeks out Gustave for murdering his mother. Gustave is taken to jail, where he plots a way out by the help of Zero and Zero's love Agatha. Agatha is a sly baker who snuck weapons/tools into bakery goods to transfer into the jail.
Gustave escapes, traveling back to Grand Budapest Hotel with the help of Zero. Zero alerts Agatha to take the Boy with Apple before the son Dmitri steals it back. Agatha is confronted in the hotel by Dmitri, escapes and is found by Zero right as Gustave & him arrive. The movie then shows Gustave reflecting his hotel life to Zero and Agatha, then being taken away to be murdered.
Zero reflects and finishes his story, the Boy with Apple remains in-tack, and Zero is now the owner of what Gustave was in charge in.
