Sucker punch is about a young girl is institutionalized by her abusive stepfather, retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, envisioning a plan to help her escape. The sequence of major events revolve around the first opening of Babydoll’s mother passing, and her stepfather receives a will stating what he will be getting from his deceased wife. The paper states that he will be taking her of Babydoll and her little sister. Babydoll then goes onto fighting her stepfather to save her sisters live, not knowing should be sent to a mental illness home. Babydoll then gets introduced to Blue Jones, which is the owner of the Jail-Lennox House. She meets the other ladies named Sweet Pea, Rocket, Blondie, and Amber who become close. After meeting the ladies, Babydoll then goes to her first dance class where she blows the crowd away. Blue then realizes that she would be one of his best dancers for his clients. After a few dances, Babydoll notices a map that could help her escape Jail-Lennox House. She convinces the girls to help her find 5 important things; a key, fire, map, knife, and teamwork.
The ladies managed to get 3 items until they hit a bumpy road in the escape plan. That is when the escape plan ended, but Babydoll did not give up. She continued to fight, and end up getting the last item. Within the finding, the last item the team lost Rocket in a sad death. The ladies managed to escape Jail-Lennox House but lost a friend in the end.
The overall tone of the story starts off very depressing, Babydoll’s mother had passed--she is fighting her way out of a dangerous situation. In the movie, it was a dark cloudy rainy day. Throughout the movie it was dark, it was not varied in colors. The color mostly revolved around grey, dark green, dark red, black. When Babydoll danced and imagined herself fighting the weather changed often yet it was still very dark. The movie's mood did not change, it was still very sad and gloomy until the ladies received all 5 items to escape. Some of the characters were moody, rude, and hateful, while others were happy, energetic, and talkative. The movie was created at Vancouver Film Studios, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
