5_5: Production
Due Dates
Upload your final clip to VIMEO by April 27 (beginning of class).
You must consider how motion and sequence can help further express your ideas. After story boards are approved, you may begin to produce your film title sequence on the computer by incorporating motion and sound. At this point you should have a good idea what you will create, which pieces you'll put together. Transitions between those "pieces" is now important. Create continuity (or intentional discontinuity) to connect your scenes. Get familiar with terms like frame mobility, graphic/temporal/spacial/action continuity (or discontinuity). These terms are explained in this PDF.
Questions to consider:
- Is typography the main graphic element used to express your idea?
- Does your story board express your idea clearly?
- Are the compositions used in your story board dynamic in their use of space?
- How can you use image as a supporting element to express your idea?
- How can you use line, shape and color to support your idea?
- How can the use of time and motion helping to furtherexpress your idea?
Intro
Since the title sequences will be shown during the Year End Show (and on the YES website), we need to add a little intro to the files containing the class name, your name and the title of the film. It's a 4 sec long sequence that you can just put in the beginning of your main timeline.
Step 1: Download and install the BARLOW font: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Barlow?query=barlow , then click the "download family" button. Unzip the download folder, select all the font files and click command-O to open up Font Book (Mac), then install.
Step 2: Import the "intro.aep" file from Box. https://uofi.box.com/s/ovc80pmxn556hl4n3fh5s18phu6wdfgu . Open you After Effects work file and click Import > File > then double click "intro.aep". Then you'll see a folder in your library called intro. In that folder is "intro.comp". Change your name and the movie title. Then just drag that into your composition. Make sure you have a 4 seconds space before you start with your timeline animation.
Render the final clip for VIMEO
We have a monthly space limit on VIMEO and that's why I recommend to use the Adobe Media Encoder for rendering the final files. In AME is a preset setting for "VIMEO HD 1080p". That compresses the file in a good quality without ending up with a huge file size.
In After Effects go to Composition > Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue. This will open AME (might take a few seconds). In AME choose the preset "Vimeo HD 1080p", as well as the file location where you want to save it, and finally click the green arrow button to render the clip.
