Type, Lines, Shapes: Collection of (print + web) examples
In assignment 2_2 and 2_3 we'll be adding lines and shapes to the pure text layout. Rather than just being decorative, those additional elements should be used to enhance the (hierarchy of) information, to separate text elements, and to create visual tension and contrast.
Below is a collection of print examples that use typographic line and shape elements for that purpose.
Shapes/Lines are used to highlight pieces of information
Lines are used to organize information as well as visually support number values.
Compositions using lines/shapes focusing on relations and proportions
Example of responsive design for print (different sized ads). Karl Gerstner, around 1960.
Bauhaus Ads ca. 1920
Same information. Composition and shapes alter the meaning and focus/emphasis/hierarchy. Black/white, positive/negative contrast.

Variations
Spending time with variations has value. There are often many more possibilities than you'd think at the beginning of a task!
Variations of typographic arrangement. No change in format and text size/weight.
